Gamelin Residence
Gamelin Residence is also a building
for mentally challenged individuals, but with greater need
of supervision. This project was made possible following
a request by the "Hearst and District Association for
the Mentally Handicapped" whose mandate is to provide
services to mentally handicapped individuals in the Hearst
area.
The building was originally owned by "les Soeurs de
la Charité de la Providence" and was constructed
in 1979, when the Order moved from their residence in the
local hospital. Originally designed as a fourplex, it
was modified during construction to accommodate the sisters'
requirements for a communal living arrangement. It was
converted back to a fourplex when the Town of Hearst Non-Profit
Housing Corporation purchased the property in 1995.
The building comprises 2 one-bedroom apartments and 2 two-bedroom
apartments, 1 common laundry room and 1 common room/kitchen. |
